The Whyte Museum has archival holdings of textual records, photographs, moving images and sound recordings in over 625 fonds and collections.  Extent is ca.550 linear metres.   The Museum's library collection includes in excess of 4400 books, 2300 pamphlets, 125 journal titles and 1000 maps, as well as brochure and clipping files, microforms, audiovisual and electronic materials.

In addition, the Whyte Museum Archives and Library is custodian of the Alpine Club of Canada library, a renowned book and journal collection covering mountain recreation, culture and landscape in all regions of the world, and the Luxton Family fonds, textual and photographic records of one of Banff's pioneering families. The Luxton Family fonds is maintained by the Archives and Library on behalf of the Eleanor Luxton Historical Foundation.
