The Heritage Homes form a unique and distinct part of the Heritage Collection aimed at preserving significant examples of Banff’s earlier architectural styles and homes associated with some of the area’s more noteworthy residents. The Heritage Homes collection was formed around buildings that were originally located on the Museum grounds, including the Peter and Catharine Whyte home, the Crosby family home (Abegweit) and the Peyto and Sinclair cabins; those moved to the site for preservation, including the Mather cabin, Windy cabin and the Moore home; and other homes located elsewhere for their importance to Banff’s built heritage, including Tarry-a-while and the McGinn home. The Luxton home is owned by the Eleanor Luxton Historical Foundation and is cared for by the Whyte Museum.
Several of the Heritage Homes retain their historic collections and furnishings and the Museum offers a full daily program of conducted tours during the summer months and a more limited winter schedule, all originating at the Museum. Please refer to our “Guided Tours” section of our “Programs and Events” page for a list of tours, times and costs.
