Burnished copper in
the sun, a warm and ruddy glowing smooth coat in artificial
light, with a domed head and a full but slightly Roman nose touched by a
few grizzled hairs about his muzzle, Brandy can look dignified and serene
and philosophical if nothing in the world of sensation is happening. His
bright brown eyes give him a look of intelligence and sympathy, and there
are moments when he is intelligent and sympathetic and keen, but, like
most dachshunds, he is never far from a comic position. Dachshunds, I
presume, have had to be comic in order to cope with jests and jibes of
those who have never had the pleasure to be possessed by one.

Canadian Rockies, n.d.
