When Winter Was King!

Take a stunning look back at Banff ’s history of winter festivals. Exposure 2012 will host an evenings of gigantic wall projections of historic winter festival photographs, in collaboration with the Whyte Museum, Glacier Holdings, the Town of Banff, Parks Canada and Banff Lake Louise Tourism. This outdoor event includes projections, music, hot chocolate and cozy fires.

Coal Miner Photographs, Stories and Songs: With Lawrence Chrismas and Robert Remington

Photographer, mining historian and story-teller, Lawrence Chrismas will highlight memorable characters from the mining regions of the Rockies through striking images and colourful narratives. Accomplished musician and songwriter, Robert Remington and friends will complement Lawrence’s presentation with mining songs. Celebrate the fascinating mining history of the Bow Valley with this special evening of imagery, story and music.

The History of Banff Indian Days

Celebrated from 1894 – 1978, Banff Indian Days festivals played an important role in the engagement of Aboriginal peoples in local tourism. Join Courtney Mason as he offers a critical overview of the history of tourism in the region and the evolution of the Banff Indian Days. Mason will focus on interactions between tourists, participants, organizers and performers, including the strong relationship between the Luxton family in Banff and the Nakoda/Stoney organizers in Morley.

The Bread With Honey - Artist Talk

Photographer, Andrew Querner will speak about his project in Kosovo which explores the complexities of new independence through the daily life struggle of the men who work in the depths of the neglected Stan Terg metal mine. Overshadowed by the politics of ongoing Serb-Albanian tensions, the mine’s future remains alarmingly uncertain as do the lives of the miners and their families.
