


We offer a variety of programs for grades K to 12: social studies, language arts, visual arts and science. All school programs are developed to complement the curriculum and are delivered by Museum Educators and Interpreters. School programs available from November 1, 2009 to April 30, 2010. The school programs listed here are free. A fee will be charged for other special requests or tours. Kindergarten – 60 minutes
Join a young mouse on his adventures in the Canadian Rockies! As we read Arty’s story, we will also get to see and touch objects that he finds along his travels. Visit the home of Peter and Catharine Whyte, where Arty’s story takes place.
Grade 1 – 60 minutes
Discover four mystery objects from the past first through touch, then sight! Using photos, compare what Banff was like100 years ago with today. Discuss why museums are important to uncovering our history mystery.
Grade 3 – 90 minutes
Travel around the globe with friends! Use clues to discover which country you are in – India, Switzerland, Tunisia, Ukraine, Peru, or Japan. Compare and contrast communities from around the world to your own mountain community.
Grade 4 – 90 minutes NEW!!
This First Nations program explores the Stoney Nakoda Nation so we can better understand how the environment affects a culture’s tools, clothing, and decorations. Uncover the importance of storytelling by creating your own legend based on the artifacts in the museum.

Be a curator for a day! Explore the role of museums. Do research in our galleries and select artifacts to create your own exhibit to show off our local heritage.

Imagine having a conversation with an artifact. What would it tell you? Using artifacts in our heritage gallery as inspiration, students take part in creative writing activities and create their own stories.
Grades 3, 4, 5 – 90 minutes

What is a landscape painting? Explore landscape art while experimenting with line, shape, colour, value and texture. Create your own landscape painting out on the Museum’s grounds. Supplies provided. Weather dependent.
Grades 1 & 2 – 60 minutes
Discover the world of wild animals! What do elk eat? Where do bears sleep? What do animals need to survive? This hands-on program includes interactive storytelling, animal sounds, guessing, and more.
Grade 3 – 90 minutes NEW!!
Explore the importance of the bison in the Stoney Nakoda culture, and the many amazing uses of this animal. Experience the circular nature of the seasons, and discover the activities that were part of each one. Listen to a traditional Stoney Nakoda legend.

Think fast! How many different types of light sources can you name? Learn how light travels and see how it can be captured to create an image. Take a look at the inside a darkroom and create your own sunprint.
Teachers are invited to take students through the Museum on their own. Please book your visit to avoid sharing the Museum with many other classes/groups and to assure a good learning experience. Admission fee: $3.50 per student, teachers and adult supervisors are admitted free of charge.
