Heritage Homes Tour

Step into the 1931 home of artists and Museum founders Peter and Catharine (Robb) Whyte, whose home illuminates their simple yet classic mountain style. Then journey back a generation to soak in the rustic elegance enjoyed by collectors Phillip and Pearl (Brewster) Moore in their 1907 home. This tour provides an intimate look at both homes and the intriguing people who lived in them.

Historic Banff Walk

Take a walk back in time and get to know the colourful individuals who built the town of Banff. This guided tour meanders through history to take you to the riverside site where Tom Wilson established one of the first outfitting operations in the area, St. Georges-in-the-Pines Anglican Church with its unique stained glass windows, and the Luxton Home and Garden. These and many other intriguing stops reveal the fascinating history of this town.

Heritage Gallery Tour - The Stuff of Legend

Journey through time with the McDougall/Luxton family, from early settler life on the prairies to high sea exploration and entrepreneurship in the Rockies. Meet the unstoppable Norman Luxton, a self made businessman with a passion for mountain culture, his wife Georgina, one of the first non-Natives born in Alberta, and their daughter Eleanor whose passion for local history completes this family of adventurers, historians and ambassadors of Banff and the Canadian Rockies experience.

Luxton Home and Garden Tour

Built around 1905, this heritage resource was home to Norman and Georgina Luxton and their daughter Eleanor. The home reflects the family's ties with the Stoney First Nations, their contribution to Banff's business and cultural activities and their passion for collecting.

Women of the Rockies

Join us in celebrating women’s history in the Canadian Rockies. This slide show presentation will introduce you to historical and current figures that have shaped our mountain culture landscape. Discover the women whose lives are a part of a legacy of backcountry travel, ranching, climbing, scientific research, writing, drama and art. Funding for this project was provided by the Banff Heritage Tourism Corporation.

Armchair History

Meander through the historic streets of Banff without leaving the comfort of your armchair. This slide-illustrated presentation weaves through history to paint a colourful portrait of this unique town and world heritage site. Through stories and images you’ll meet the individuals who played a significant part in Banff’s heritage.
