A recent donation of paintings by Alberta artist RFM McInnis includes two still lifes, three landscapes (currently on view in our Recent Acquisitions Hall), and two portraits, including Lucy of the High River Times. McInnis’s work is a welcome addition to the permanent collections at the Whyte Museum, expanding our small but important collection of portraiture, contributing to the growing collections of still life work, and adding works representing the southern Rockies to our holdings of landscape painting. McInnis has a long history of painting in Canada, beginning in his birthplace of Saint John, New Brunswick, and moving from there to Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, southern Alberta (near Nanton) and soon to a new venue of Winnipeg. McInnis was included in the 2004/05 Whyte Museum exhibition Alberta: Four Artists, 100 Years of Painting along with Jim Davies, Les Graff, and Jacqueline Stehelin.
