British born A. C. Leighton, one of the founders of the
Banff School of Fine Arts (now the Banff Centre) is known for his work for
the Canadian Pacific Railway. He is one of a number of artists who
received rail passes to paint the spectacular scenery of the Rockies. This
piece, “Hop Oasts” - Wet Day is a gift of Peter and
Judith Jekill.
