At Rest in the Peaks

A guided walk through the Old Banff Cemetery. As we turn
our gaze from the lofty peaks to the scene at our feet, the
neatly kept rows of grave markers nestled in amongst the pines
holds equal fascination. Here lies the very essence of Banff’s
history, laid out as though each marker were the chapter in a
book.
Since about 1890, when baby Adelia Woodsworth was laid to
rest, the cemetery has been the final repose for some 2,045
individuals. Amongst the engraved tombstones appear the names
of the Rockies’ historic figures and the builders of the
community, but mingling with them are also those whose tales
remain unknown. Dedicated to Jon Whyte, who instigated the
cemetery walking tour.
