Elise Rasmussen:
An Alpine Trilogy
November 1, 2025 - April 12, 2026

This exhibition brings together three interconnected works that resonate in Banff’s alpine setting, where history, culture, and nature converge. Through rigorous research and lens-based media, Rasmussen recasts traditional narratives of history and nature through an exploration of the French and Swiss Alps.

Did You Know Blue Had No Name? explores the science and symbolism of the colour blue. The Year Without a Summer links an 1816 climatic anomaly to contemporary environmental crises. Nostalgia: A Return to the Alps in Five Vignettes examines the French and Swiss Alps as spaces of retreat and healing.

Through the Lens

The Whyte is pleased to present Through the Lens, celebrating the work of high school students from Banff, Canmore, and Mînî Thnî. The 2024/25 revival of this youth photography program builds on a history at The Whyte spanning nearly three decades. Revived by alumni Nic Latulippe and Soloman Chiniquay, the program invites students to explore their identities, relationships, and surroundings through the art of 35 mm film photography.

This program and exhibition are supported by the Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation.
